The Networks Around Us
Networks are one of the most normal things in human social experience. We all have our unfolding story with its pain and joy, written, largely, in the networks of which we are a part. They are bascially people who would see you regularly in your community. Everyone of us is associated with networks of many kinds - family, peers, friends, organisations etc. Some we have daily contact, others regularly contact, and yet others we only see once in a while. Networks can be in our memory or mind, and are a part of our psychological community. They can be grand-parents we never met or relatives who live overseas. They reflect back to us in some ways something of our value and world view. It is fascinating to sit down and draw up your networks in a piece of paper. Who are the people to whom you were important? Who became important to you? What did you learn from them? What did you teach them? How permanent was the impact of the relationship? |
